Buy the tool that matches the roof, not the storm

The $8 brush that came with a used Civic will scrape frost. It will not move 8 cm of wet snow off an SUV roof without you climbing the bumper. That is how people dent doors and throw out their back in November. A sedan and an SUV are different jobs.

If you can reach the roof with your feet on the ground, a 26-inch Hopkins- or Mallory-style brush with a real scraper is enough. The Mallory 532 class tool is the boring Canadian default: foam grip, ice scraper, lives in the door (B000BPLNXC). Keep it in the car. A brush in the garage is how you use a credit card on the windshield at 7 a.m.

If you drive a crossover or a truck, buy a foam snow broom with a long handle. You push snow. You do not stand on the tire. Foam is less likely to haze paint than cheap bristles. A Snow Joe-style wide foam head with a scraper on the other end is the shape (B07FK6X7DM). Reach matters more than brand. If you cannot pull snow off the far side without climbing, the tool is too short.
