What people mix up
- If you have been eligible every year since 2009 and never contributed, unused room is $109,000 at the start of 2026. Most people have used some of that.
- A withdrawal in 2026 comes back as room on 1 January 2027, not the next day. Putting the same dollars back this year can be an over-contribution.
- The 2026 RRSP dollar limit is $33,810. Your own room is the lesser of that and 18% of 2025 earned income, minus pension adjustments. The number on the Notice of Assessment is the one that counts.
